ConvertKit Review: Is It Worth the Money?

Blog Marketing Is ConvertKit worth the money? ConvertKit Review May 9, 2021

by Yiming Xuzhou | @siliconvalbread

The email marketing world has changed for small businesses. The old days of sending your emails to millions of people and hoping that something sticks are over. Nowadays, success is measured by the number of subscribers you have on your list and how well they’re engaging with your content. If you want to make a big impact with your email marketing strategy, then it’s time for an upgrade!

What is ConvertKit?

Convertkit is the world’s most powerful email marketing platform.

What you’ll find inside ConvertKit is a way to create and manage your email lists from one place, which means that when someone subscribes to your site then they automatically become a part of your email list.

Once there are at least 100 people on that list, you can start creating campaigns from inside ConvertKit where you can send targeted messages to your audiences.

What Makes ConvertKit Unique?

You might be thinking, “Why should I use ConvertKit when there are so many other email marketing tools? How does ConvertKit compare to MailChimp?”

Here are 5 reasons why ConvertKit stands alone as our favorite email marketing platform.

1. The only email marketing service that has a built-in CRM

A CRM, or Customer Relationship Management, is a set of software programs that help businesses manage customer interactions.

It’s also the same acronym your doctor uses to keep track of all their patients and appointments!

ConvertKit has this built-in so you can easily create nested groups in order to segment out different types of readers (i.e., those who bought from me, those who unsubscribed without telling me why,  people signed up for my email course…etc.)

Lipstick and Pixels has a great tutorial for how to set up your email segments.

2. Their drag and drop editor makes it easy to create beautiful emails

What do I mean by that?

The design of your email is totally up to you!

Not only does the editor allow for customization, but it provides a full preview as well so you can see how everything will look before sending it out.

Want to include some images in there too? It couldn’t be easier with ConvertKit.

You don’t have to worry about coding anything or finding an image hosting service because all these things are automatically taken care of.

All you need is a few clicks and boom-you’re done designing your perfect email template right from inside ConvertKit!

One thing that might take time if you’re new at this though is how you format your content. You might be used to doing things a certain way from the old days of email marketing and it can take some time to get used to how ConvertKit works in terms of formatting emails.

The good news is that if you have any questions, they’re just an email away!

The team at ConvertKit has put together this great resource guide full of helpful tips on creating simple yet beautiful emails (including templates!); so when I was having trouble with my newsletter template layout, all I had to do was send them a quick email requesting help and not only did they respond right away but they also sent me over their best practices for designing newsletters!

They really are committed to helping people succeed with their new business venture no matter what obstacles come their way.

3. You can send up to 12,000 emails per month for FREE with ConvertKit

Sending emails is one of the most basic components to email marketing.

With Convertkit, you can send up to 12,000 emails per month for free which will allow you to promote your blog posts and drive more traffic to your site without any out-of-pocket costs!

What’s even better than that? You get a 14 day trial period so see if Convertkit is right for you before making a commitment! This means that there are no strings attached. No credit card needed. So what do you have left to lose?

Do I recommend it?: Yes – The best part about this software is how user friendly it is; anyone with just an elementary understanding of computers can use ConvertKit in less time than it takes to learn any other email software on the market.

4. Schedule your emails in advance so they go out when you want them to

  • ConvertKit allows you to schedule your emails in advance so they go out when you want them to.
  • This means that if there are certain times of the day or days of the week where your readership is especially high, then you can set up email campaigns ahead of time and have those messages sent automatically at those specific times!

Why is this useful?

Well, if you’re ever in a pinch for time and need to send an email out last minute (e.g., announcing your new blog post), then this feature is going to be invaluable!

You can even:

  • Set up automated sequences that are triggered by events happening on your mailing list – such as when someone buys something from one of your online stores or signs up for the first time.
  • By setting up these automation sequences ahead of time, you’ll minimize any mistakes because they’ll already be written before anything happens!

5. Unlimited A/B testing with every account

Using A/B testing is very powerful because it helps you find out what works best for reaching your target audience.

If you’re not sure what type of email to send, this is a great way to test and figure out which one your audience enjoys!

You’ll be able to see how many people opened the emails as well as click rates.

ConvertKit is the only email marketing service that offers both A/B split testing and automation campaigns (among other awesome features). This means that you can test two different headlines against one another or set your campaign so it sends exactly when you want it to go out at, without any manual input from you whatsoever.  This goes a long way in increasing response rates! On top of this, they also have an e-commerce solution called “ConvertKit Commerce” that allows store owners and membership site creators to sell their products with ease – no more dependence on third parties like Shopify – all right inside your emails.

Want help setting up your A/B testing? Read this guide for more information.

Now that we’ve covered all the features of ConvertKit in-depth, let’s take a look at how it compares to other email marketing services.

Let’s first talk about Price: MailChimp is free for up to 12000 subscribers but they charge $30 per month once your list exceeds this number.

MadMimi charges only $14 per month no matter what size your audience is which makes them great for bloggers just starting out on their own who want an inexpensive option.

AWeber offers plans from anywhere between $19 -$499 so the price will vary depending on your needs and budget.

With ConvertKit, you get a lifetime plan which includes up to 2000 subscribers for just $29 per month.

In conclusion, there are many reasons why ConvertKit is a great email marketing service. The one that I found to be the most compelling was its automation tools which allow me to grow my list of subscribers in the most effective way possible, without having to do any additional work myself! I also like the fact that it’s so easy to get help from their support team if I need guidance on how best to use the service. If you are looking for an email marketing solution, then ConvertKit is definitely a good choice!
