I have heard time and time again people asking, “What new business should I start?”

Almost directly after I get this question, this follow-up will come.

“What startup business is the most profitable?”

I get it. Everyone wants to know what the best startup business idea is. Not only that, but they also usually want to make passive income, while having a job. At first, I thought it sounded impossible.

If starting a side business from home with barely any money was easy, wouldn’t everyone be doing it?

A couple of years later, I have found myself on the complete other side of the discussion.

I did it; I started and managed a handful of small online businesses while working a full-time job. With so many different business ideas that are proven to be successful, I had a lot of options to choose from. So I experimented with different strategies and tried as many as I could.

When I went back to reflect on my work, I found that I had either started or attempted nearly 150 different business ideas as a solo entrepreneur. It was nearly a 3-year effort.

So let me save you some time and show you my favorite ones.

If you are looking to begin a business of any kind in 2021, you are going to need a website. In fact, 36% of personal businesses that started using online tools now make all of their sales online.

Launching a website for your business has a lot of benefits. For one thing, you can announce your new venture, collect email leads, get early customers, or build your brand completely online.

You can even make money just by adding a blog to your website. If you are passionate about something like fashion, sports, or finance, you can monetize your interests by writing article posts with affiliate links or display ads.

The best part is how easy it is to start a side hustle this way. Creating a new business website is not as hard as it was 10 years ago. If you have a product to sell already, this is your first step to growing your startup.

Use this domain name checker to see if a domain you like is available for purchase.

Making a blog is one of the best side hustles you can start in 2021. All you really need to make money by blogging is a niche, some good ideas, and a lot of dedication.

According to Financial Samurai, “if you can get to 100,000 page views a month you can make between $1,000 – $10,000 off of your blog per month.”

How much do Bloggers make?

In reality, starting a blog is not as hard as you may think it is. First, you want to do some keyword research to figure out what you want to write about. You will have the most success if you target a high-traffic niche with low competition.

From there, all you need is a domain name and a web host.

Your domain should reflect the type of content you want to create on the blog. Here is a list of best practices when it comes to choosing your website’s name.

Next, you want to find a web host that provides reliable and fast servers. This is a great time to put your research cap on and find the host that fits you best.

If you want an affordable host that gets you a free domain for an entire year, we believe Bluehost is your best bet. It costs less than a cup of coffee a month to get your website set up quickly with Bluehost.

However, if you value website speed as much as we do, you should stick with Hostinger‘s cloud professional plan. We only use Hostinger for our websites simply because of their incredible speed and 24/7 support.

Here’s a step-by-step guide.

How to Start a Profitable Blog in 5 Steps

  1. Choose a Blog Name. Pick a unique name for your blog.
  2. Get your Blog Online. Register your domain and get hosting.
  3. Personalize your blog. Choose a free theme and design your blog.
  4. Write your first blog post. Put your creative juices to the test!
  5. Promote and Monetize. Grow your following and start making money.

1. Choose a Blog Name

The most important part about your blog is the name.

Your name represents the story and experiences you are bringing to readers who find your site online.

If you don’t know what topic to make a blog about yet, don’t worry. Move on to the next step

Here are a few ideas of blog topics:

  • Hobbies; i.e. sports, music, fashion, dancing
  • Include passions; i.e. cooking, cars, games
  • Write about your biggest talent; i.e. business, marketing, medical, computer science
  • Make a personal blog; i.e. DIY, journalism, daily thoughts
  • Share life experiences; i.e. travel, concerts, events, marriage, family

Once you have an idea of what topic to make your blog about, choose a name that’s catchy, short, and related to your niche.

Then, see if your name is available.

2. Get your Blog Online

So now you have your blog name. Perfect.

Let’s get your blog on the internet so everyone can see and love it.

To get it online, you need two things: web hosting and blogging software. Luckily, these two things go hand in hand.

The blog host is the company that is managing all the files that build up your blog, and sending it to viewers. You can’t start a blog without a host.

Additionally, you need a software tool that lets you access your blog’s backend so you can make edits. WordPress is the best option (and makes up over 1/4th of all the websites on the internet).

The best web host is Bluehost. I use it for my blogs and I would recommend it for a few reasons:

  1. Its affordable (less than a cup of coffee a month)
  2. You get a free custom domain for an entire year
  3. You get a 30 day money back guarantee if you don’t like it for any reason
  4. They offer a free installation guide for getting WordPress
  5. They have quick and reliable 24/7 customer support

Sign up for Bluehost and get the cheapest plan. It costs less than 3 dollars a month and it’s all you need to get your blog online.

Follow the setup instructions and get WordPress installed.

3. Personalize your blog

Once you have WordPress, go to the dashboard and pick out a free theme in the “appearance” menu.

You have thousands of options to choose from so feel free to take your time during this step.

Here’s a full guide on getting started with WordPress (specifically for fashion blogs).

4. Write your first blog post

When you start writing your first blog post on WordPress, you may notice that the default editor is difficult to use.

Instead, you want to use a free plugin called Elementor to design your site with a visual drag-and-drop tool.

Check it out.

5. Promote and Monetize

If you want to turn your blog into a profitable small business, you need to promote and monetize it.

Get your blog online, then read these guides to make money with your new website.

In 2019, the online course industry was estimated to be worth between 170 and 200 billion dollars. These are statistics from 2 years ago!

Before Covid hit the United States, online courses were already one of the most profitable ways to earn money online, even with a full-time job. Doctors, consultants, coaches, teachers, and marketers all took to the digital world to create their lessons and earn revenue.

Why is it so popular? Simple. Online courses have become incredibly easy to start and monetize in 2021. All you have to do is design your course using a software platform and fill it with valuable content. If you already have knowledge in some subject, this part can actually be really fun!

I use Teachable to host and build all my online courses because of how affordable it is and how easy it lets me create what I want. They also have a great guide that will help walk you through the entire process of starting a course.

Once you have your course set up, use a marketing toolkit to get new students to find your business. GetResponse is a premiere digital marketing software that can grow your online business faster than you possibly could alone.

4. Build a Web App

I know what you’re thinking. Creating your own web app as a startup business idea is no easy task.

However, it is actually possible to start and manage a web app with zero coding experience in 2021. By using a tool called Bubble, you can learn how web apps work while building your own in a lab environment. This is a great way to save your time and money when embarking on a side business project like developing an app.

This tool will actually allow you to fully create apps like Airbnb, Tinder, Netflix, and Reddit with custom templates that require no coding knowledge.

There is no doubt that podcast listening is a growing business in 2021. Over the past 4 years, the number of Americans that listen to weekly podcasts has increased by over 120%. That accounts for about 90 million people that listen to podcasts every month.

If you have a voice, a brand, or a business that you want to share with listeners, you can start your own podcast and make great money from it.

We use Buzzsprout to host and start our podcast because of how easy and simple it is for beginners.

They have a great guide for getting started and they even offer a free $20 Amazon gift card just for signing up!

6. Be a Graphic Designer

Nowadays, every small to mid-sized business needs a freelancer or a hire to do graphic design for them. If you have a talent for crafting marketing graphics, this could be a great side business to start in 2021.

Doing freelance work as a graphic designer is very straightforward. All you have to do is sign up for Andco (the free freelancer management software) and start selling your services on Fiverr.

If you aren’t too well-versed in graphic design yet, don’t worry. Making beautiful logos, social media posts, and marketing visuals is actually very easy… if you have the right tools.

I use Canva to create almost all of my designs and make them look professional. Sign-up is free.

7. Make Money by Networking

Webtalk is an exclusive platform for entrepreneurs, small business owners, and networkers to share content and connect with other like-minded people.

Webtalk shares 50% of the ad revenue you generate whether that’s from user engagement or social influencing. However, you do need to be invited to the platform by a current member in order to take advantage of this business opportunity.

Luckily for you, I am already part of this networking community. You can join Webtalk for free with my link here

8. Develop a Stock Management App

Managing your stock accounts can become really hard, really fast. If you use crypto apps like Coinbase in conjunction with trading apps like WeBull and Robinhood, it could be helpful to manage all your investments from one place.

If you are gifted in coding or app development, inventing a stock management solution could be an immensely successful venture.

Of course, it always helps to sharpen your skills with an effective online course.

9. Be a YouTube Creator

Being a YouTube influencer is one of the most sought-after jobs in 2021. That being said, it is also very difficult to get big on YouTube without an initial following.

You can actually earn a full time income from making videos like sports highlights, vlogs, and math theories.

As a YouTube creator, everything you make is under your control. You have the freedom to direct your career exactly how you want. Some people have made millions of dollars just from filming reaction videos to other YouTube channels.

So to get started first do your research. Find a niche on YouTube that you like enough to stick with for a long time. Begin with a few simple videos and grow your content with your audience’s suggestions.

If your YouTube business takes off, you might want to start posting your content on other channels too, like TikTok and Instagram.

Recommended Resources:

10. Invest Your Earnings

If you want to prepare yourself for future success, you should start investing money as soon as possible.

Think about it. Creating a successful business idea is one thing, but being smart with the money you earn is a whole other aspect.

If you sign up for Acorns, you don’t even have to think about investing to earn money.

Acorns will automatically round up your payments to the nearest dollar and add it to a diverse investment portfolio for you. These small bits will eventually add up and could make you a ton of money in the future.

On the other hand, you could also invest using simple apps like Coinbase. You can even earn free crypto on this platform just for signing up.

For those of you who are looking for the best investing app available, look no further than M1 Finance. It comes with far more features and complexities than the other apps, at a higher cost.

Regardless of the platform you choose, investing your startup business money is a very strategic option.

11. Develop a Payment Gateway

Payment Gateway Business Idea

If you’ve heard of Stripe and Square, you should already know how profitable a payment gateway business can be.

The market for this business idea is always open for a new competitor. After all, online businesses all need to use a platform that will send payments to and from clients. Although Stripe is a strong company, they don’t do the one-click payment as effectively as they could.

Taking an online course for coding and backend development could help you learn how to invent a new solution that steals valuable market share.

12. Do Commission-Based Sales

They say that a master of sales has a real-life superpower. I don’t disagree.

If you have seen The Wolf of Wall Street, you know exactly how far one man can go just from being good at selling. Although it is an extreme example, being a great salesman can still turn you into a rich entrepreneur.

For starters, you can seek out freelance positions as a commission-based sales rep or join a startup company with a great business idea.

Before you get your name out there, you should work on sharpening your skills by reading up on some of the most critically acclaimed books on selling. Marketers, MBA’s, and business people alike all know and love Secrets of a Master Closer and To Sell is Human by Daniel Pink.

It also helps to take a few courses on sales education like The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Pitching Clients and Getting Sales on CreativeLive (which costs less than $30). If you have a higher budget and you want to take a course that can jumpstart a career in selling, consider signing up for Enterprise Sales on edX.

Once you feel confident in your ability to get out there and start a position in sales, check out Angel.co to see if there are any job openings that fit you.

Recommended Resources:

13. Become an Instagram Influencer

Building a strong following on Instagram can be a long and difficult job, but once you get there, you can make a lot of money from it. In fact, lots of businesses, brands, and companies will likely reach out to you before you even reach 20,000 followers.

Why? Influencer marketing is becoming one of the best ways to grow awareness for a brand.

Creators themselves can easily set prices of $500 to $10,000 per sponsored post IF they have the credentials and marketing skills for it.

To get a jump start on your Instagram growth, you should consider purchasing a few real, targeted followers for less than $10 using a tool like Likes.io.

However, it is still best to gain organic growth by maintaining a consistent posting schedule and designing amazing graphic content

If you want to learn a thing or two about making viral social media videos, you should take Lilly Singh‘s exclusive online course on social media storytelling.

Getting “good” at social media is no small task. You can actually build an entire career by effectively managing a business’s social media accounts.

Another great course you should check out is Viral Marketing: 7 Secrets to Promote Any Product by Time Magazine’s acclaimed marketer, Jon Youshaei.

14. Be a Content Marketer

If you’ve launched a website, you probably already know how impactful content marketing can be. In fact, most marketers believe that great content is the most effective way to grow a small business organically.

As a result, businesses are always looking for marketing professionals to write compelling content on their websites, often via blogs.

If you are serious about doing content marketing, it is very useful to plan out your work with a marketing calendar tool like CoSchedule. CoSchedule’s marketing planner is specifically made for new content marketers and features a simple and beautiful UI that makes it easy to visualize your tasks.

On the other hand, if you want to use a professional tool that will help you schedule content and manage team tasks, I would recommend using ClickUp.

A great strategy for getting more engagement on blog posts is repurposing them into other formats. You can easily turn a blog post into an ebook or a report piece with a tool like Designrr

Doing so can help you build evergreen content that remains relevant for years to come. It will also help your content reach a larger audience in the long run.

15. Create an Online Store

If you live in a small town and you want to make money from home, then creating an online store is a hot business idea. In fact, you don’t even need to make your own products to start selling at a profit. How is this possible?

The answer has two parts: Dropshipping and Commission. Essentially, this startup business method consists of these steps:

  1. Discover winning products from qualified suppliers across the world
  2. Order product samples to test out the quality
  3. Connect your online store
  4. Sell products directly from the supplier to customers via your online store

Basically, you can earn money by selling products you don’t own at a markup price. Each time a customer makes a purchase on your store, the order goes directly to the supplier who does the work of shipping and handling. Then, you run away with the commission, mothertrucka!

To get started, you should create an online store with a website builder tool. My favorite one is Squarespace. Read up on this 8 step guide to set up an eCommerce website and come back.

Then, all you have to do is connect your store to Spocket, the top dropshipping platform for small business owners. Go to their website and sign up.

Once you’re done filling out your information, click on “Get started”.

You will immediately be sent to a screen where you can browse different products related to your business idea.

Click on the bottom left hand corner where it says “My Shop”.

Connect the platform with your online store builder and you’re done! Now all you need to focus on is managing your store and maximizing your revenue.

Let’s move into the next startup business idea.

16. Start an Event Management App

Event Management App Business Idea

Now that the Covid-19 pandemic is coming to a close, people are starting to plan more events and parties with their friends.

This also means that the market for event planning software is going to grow very quickly.

Developing an event management/ticket collecting tool could be a very profitable business if you have the coding expertise to do it.

If not, you could always use a software tool like Zeroqode to create the app with a simplified builder.

You never know when a new app idea could turn into a profitable job for years to come.

17. Do Tax Preparation

Tax Preparation

Okay, let’s face it. Accounting isn’t exactly anyone’s dream job. But it is a skill that all businesses rely on if they want to keep track of their finances.

If you are good with numbers and you don’t mind working with forms and spreadsheets, you could make really good money by getting into the tax preparation business.

In fact, people pay an average of $229 for a traditional tax preparation service according to a study by the National Society of Accountants.

Want to learn accounting principles without spending years in school? Take up an online course on Skillshare

18. Start a Presentation Design Business

Presentation Design Business Idea

Did you know that you can turn presentation making into a startup business idea?

Yeah, that’s right. Businesses will actually pay you to create stunning presentations for their meetings and demonstrations.

The good news is that making great presentations isn’t too hard.

All you need is a solid graphic design tool like Canva or Visme and you’re set. You can even use something like Beautiful.ai to design your presentation for you. (with artificial intelligence)

If you want to make money with this job idea, sign up for a freelance management software tool like Andco to manage your contracts on Fiverr.

19. Sell a Subscription Box

Sell a Subscription Box

Selling a subscription box is an immensely profitable startup idea because of a few reasons.

  • You can receive recurring revenue from subscribers.
  • You get to decide exactly how to source your products.
  • You can price your box in a way that generates profit every time.

To get started with a subscription box business, you want to first find a niche market to target. Do your market research, check out the competitors, and start thinking about how you are going to craft a unique offering.

If you have a talent in DIY and creativity, you can monetize your skills by starting a handmade product store. You can use a website like Etsy to both buy and sell goods after adding a handmade twist.

From there, you should start a website for your business or use an online store creator like Shopify to reach your audience.

Alternatively, you could use a dropshipping platform like Spocket to outsource your products and sell to new customers in one single space.

Spocket makes it easy for you to find winning products across the world so that you can easily add it to your online store and generate profits.

21. Do Freelance Work

Startup Business Idea: Become a Freelancer

A freelancer is an entrepreneur who does contracted services for other companies or individuals. The work they do can range from anything like marketing, SEO, digital design, sales, writing, and more.

If you have any special talents, there is a high chance that you can monetize that talent by freelancing.

For example, Writers Work is a job-listing organization that can connect freelance writers with businesses that need their services.

With a single payment of less than $50, you can get start getting contracts right from the get go.

If you aren’t a writer, you can still do all types of freelance work on websites like Fiverr.

Fiverr is the largest marketplace for any and all digital services you might need. All you have to do to start making money is sign up for Andco (the freelancing management platform) and create a seller account on Fiverr.

Recommended Resources:

22. Write College Essays

Write College Essays

Every year, the new wave of college freshmen get admitted to their 4 year schools. But before that happens, they have to write a bunch of essays to submit to their colleges.

This is where you come in.

If you got into a great school and you have the writing credentials to prove your talent, you should consider doing college essay writing as a service. Sign up to be a writer on a platform like EssayService or Fiverr and start earning as soon as possible.

Recommended Resources:

23. Become an Online Dating Consultant

Online Dating Consultant

If you have a way with words (or guys/gals), you could monetize this by becoming an online dating consultant. Chances are, you probably are already giving your friends relationship advice all the time. So why not turn this into a startup business?

Some possible things you could do to make money include:

  • Creating Online Dating Profiles for Clients
  • Remaking Profiles
  • Managing Dating Site Accounts
  • Mentally Preparing Clients for Dates
  • Giving Focused Consultations

Once you have an idea of how you want to help your customers get dates, make a website for your business.

Then, start thinking about how you will market your dating services and grow your startup!

Recommended Resources:

24. Develop an Emergency Response App

Emergency Response App

One way you can start a new business while helping your community is by developing a location-specific emergency response app.

You can connect information from local databases to alert your area when there are emergencies or accidents.

In order to make a product like this, it definitely helps to take a course on app development and data science.

We recommend signing up for a full program from Skillshare or Udacity to make the most of your experience.

Recommended Resources:

25. Be an Uber Driver

Be an Uber Driver

Did you know that being a driver can actually make you a lot of money in your free time? The best part is that you can do it on your own schedule and take breaks whenever you want.

Not only that, a lot of ride-share apps offer great rewards and incentives for new drivers.

I was able to work up a deal with Lyft to get any new driver a $600 bonus, just from signing up.

Of course, you can also sign up for Uber, the leading app for ride-shares and food delivery.

Most self-made entrepreneurs who work in the driving business tend to make both a Lyft and an Uber account so that they can make the most of their time.

Recommended Resources:

26. Wrap Your Car

Side Business Idea: Wrap Your Car

While it may come at the expense of looking like a moving advertisement, you can make some money on the side by wrapping your car in ads.

If you drive a solid distance to and from work on a daily basis, you can probably find an advertiser who will be willing to pay up to $1,000 a month just to commute with their ads.

All you have to do to earn income with this side hustle is sign up with a company like Carvertise or Wrapify. They will do the work of connecting you with car wrapping companies and advertisers.

Recommended Resources:

27. Write News for Publishers

Write News

Becoming a news writer requires some prerequisites, but if you have the talent it can be a rewarding and fun side hobby. Getting paid to write news articles for big publishing companies comes with more than just a paycheck.

You get notoriety within your industry, you can build backlinks to your personal websites, and you will have the opportunity to directly engage with celebrities and influencers.

To get to this level, you need to have the appropriate credentials.

Consider applying for journalism internships that can give you a foot in the door with a new company. You could also start a blog to practice writing or take some journalism online courses to sharpen your skills.

Recommended Resources:

28. Start a Pop-Up Shop

Pop Up Shop Startup Business Idea

A pop-up shop is a retail store that tries to attract short-term sales before closing down. It is a business strategy that entrepreneurs use to take advantage of trends, fads, and scheduled events.

Running a pop-up shop is an attractive option for new business owners because of a few benefits:

  • Saving money – pop-ups have lower rent costs than normal rates
  • Low risk – short-term means that the risk of losing money is diluted
  • Market research – you can use a pop-up shop to test a new product’s market in a small environment

29. Be a Blog Copywriter

Blog Copywriter

Most online websites and businesses rely on blog copywriting to boost sales. Having more effective blog posts on your site means more targeted traffic and viewership.

Attacking this market is a smart business idea, especially if you work from home.

By doing freelance blog copywriting work, you can make a profitable small business by yourself. The best part is that you can enlist the help of a bot to speed up the process of copywriting. Using a tool like Conversion.ai is a bit of a life hack, to be honest.

Conversion.ai uses a copywriting AI assistant named Jarvis to help you write long-form articles, social media copy, sales letters, and ebooks from scratch. Amazingly, everything typed from Jarvis sounds 100% natural and even clever.

I would suggest signing up for an exclusive free trial to see if you the AI is right for you.

Once you have your content marketing tools set up, it’s time to start making money as a copywriting entrepreneur.

You want to sign up for job listing websites that need writers, like ContentFly and Writers Work.

Also, you can put your services up on Indeed and Fiverr.

30. Start a Logo Design Business

100 Startup Business Ideas

Another smart business idea for freelancers and editors is logo design.

For those of you who are seeking a future role as a Senior Brand Designer or a Graphic Design Specialist, working with logo design is a great place to propel your career.

There’s a big market for designers too. According to reports, the market size for logo design in the US is estimated to be around $3 billion USD.

Additionally, surveys have shown that 67% of small businesses are willing to pay up to $500 USD for a professional logo.

But those businesses aren’t going to pay you hundreds of dollars for a basic logo you made off of Canva. If you want to run a profitable solo business in this industry, you need to invest in a professional tool.

We recommend using Cyberlink‘s photo editing suite or CorelDraw Graphics Suite 2021.

31. Make Sales Funnels

Make a Sales Funnel

A sales funnel is a marketing term that encapsulates every stage in a customer’s life cycle journey, including discovery, research, action, and purchase.

Even if you don’t know exactly how it works, you can actually make your own sales funnel website with a template from ClickFunnels.

ClickFunnels is a software platform that builds high-converting product pages that act as interactive funnels.

Here is an example of a funnel that is promoting a free web class.

ClickFunnels Example

By the way, this is a real webinar that you can attend for free if you want to learn how to craft your own funnel pages.

The webinar is hosted by Russell Brunson, founder of ClickFunnels, and it includes loads of useful information and resources for entrepreneurs who want to improve their sales and conversion rates.

32. Get In the Real Estate Business

Real Estate Business Idea

Here is a job idea that you can do without having a college degree.

Out of all the small business ideas on this list, real estate investing is probably the best way to grow your income passively.

So to get started, you need to have some capital to spend on a property.

Then, look through real estate marketplaces like Crowdstreet to find a property you might want to invest in.

If you have never put money in this industry before, I would highly encourage taking a class first. Check out this online course by Linkedin.

33. Do Professional Video Editing

Make Money by Working with Professional Video Editors

Video editing is a skill you can easily develop as a teen or a student at home. As long as you set aside some time every day to work on your craft, you can eventually become good enough to start your own business.

The only investment you need for this startup idea is your choice of video editing software. Once you have that, it’s all about learning the features of your tool and spending time working with projects.

It would also be helpful to use a guided video to show you the basics of editing. Here is a YouTube tutorial for getting started with Corel VideoStudio Pro, our favorite video editing software.

Once you become a rockstar editor, sell your services on freelance websites like Fiverr and Upwork. Boom. You got a solo home business.

Obviously, this is a oversimplified version of becoming successful as a professional editor.

If you really want to go down that path, consider applying to film school to earn a BA so you can land a full-time job. In the meantime, take an online course like….

Of course, this path isn’t going to lead you to a full-time editing career with a 6-figure salary. If that’s your goal, consider applying to film school to get a BA so you can land a job as a professional video editor.

34. Craft Compelling Social Media Videos

It’s no secret that businesses will pay good money for compelling social media marketing videos.

If you already use social media on a daily basis, you could turn that habit into a smart business idea.

So to get started, set up an Instagram portfolio profile to show off your talents to hiring companies.

It is helpful to use a social media management tool like Ingramer to schedule your posts and increase your organic engagement. I also love Ingramer because of its free Instagram-specific toolkit, which includes these tools:

You can also enlist the help of a dedicated marketing team to boost your Instagram for you. For example, Social Boost is an Instagram marketing agency that can grow your profile with organic, targeted followers.

Once you have a fairly large account that you can show off to other businesses, make sure to build a compelling resume with lots of examples of your work.

Better yet, create a portfolio website that links visitors to all your relevant jobs and experience.

35. Develop a Chatting App

Develop a Chatting App

In 2021, new chatting apps are becoming more and more popular.

We have seen the rise of apps like Telegram, OnlyFans, WeChat, and many other platforms. The days of messaging on a single text app are coming to a halt.

With this in mind, you could start a new business by developing your own chatting app, with a twist. Maybe this app is meant for a certain demographic or has a nifty gaming element.

Regardless of the way you position your offering, make sure to focus on the fundamentals of your new project. Take your time with development, tweak out the bugs, and always stay on top of your time.

36. Domain Name Trading

If you have looked into a purchasing a new domain name for a website, you probably noticed that the price for some domains are insanely expensive.

That’s because of this thing called “Domaining”.

GoDaddy refers to domaining as “buying domain names with potential value to any number of buyers based on habits, interests or trends.”

Also known as “Domain Investing”, this is basically when someone purchases a top-level domain that they think other people will want, and sells it to the highest bidder.

If you are the first person to stake your claim on an attractive-sounding domain, this could be an easy way to make upwards of $1,000 from home.

This is also a great investment since you can own a domain for only about $15 a year.

A good idea would be to use a domain name generator to find some unique ideas and test them out (to see if they’re taken) on a domain marketplace like GoDaddy.com.

37. Manage Social Media Accounts

Social Media Startup Business Idea

One way a lot of marketing agencies make passive income is by managing social media accounts for other businesses.

You too can stake your claim in this market by offering your services on job hunting sites like Monster and Indeed, after you have established your marketing credentials.

Alternatively, you could start your own website and direct clients to it via SEO, search engine marketing, and paid advertising.

Either way, managing multiple social media accounts is a much easier task when you have a free tool like Crowdfire that can help you schedule posts and analyze engagement.

38. Start a Dropshipping Business

Dropshipping Type of Business

A dropshipping business is one of the most powerful ways to earn money online in 2021 simply because of how easy it is to start.

All you need to do is use a software tool to build an online store and fill it with sellable products.

In reality, you don’t even need to create your own product to generate loads of sales and run a profitable business. This is the secret of dropshipping.

Using an online website like AliDropship can net you generous profits just by following their simple guidelines. They even let you create an exact copy of a successful store to sell outsourced products. This alleviates the time and energy you would have needed to spend on creating your own eCommerce site.

If you want more flexibility and creative freedom, you can always make your own online store with Squarespace and fill it with products using Spocket.

Either way, you have the blueprint for a successful small business idea.

39. Sell Private Photos

Have you heard of the platform called OnlyFans?

Founded in 2016, OnlyFans is a subscription-based website for content creators to monetize their pictures.

Did you also know that celebrities like Bhad Bhabie and Bella Thorne have become millionaires within hours of signing up for OnlyFans? It’s true.

If you have a large following on social media, you can potentially make thousands by selling your content on this platform.

While most people use OnlyFans as a website to sell explicit photos, there is a huge community of creators that make money from athletic videos, cooking tutorials, singing, and more.

All you have to do to get started is make an account on OnlyFans.

You don’t have to show your face, reveal your identity, or do anything that can expose your true self online.

Let’s look at the next small business idea.

Recommended Resources:

40. Be a Landing Page Expert

Businesses with over 40 landing pages get 12 times as many leads as ones with less than 5 landing pages.

Knowing this, you have proof that being a landing page creator/expert is a smart business idea.

Given the right tools, creating landing pages for specific ad campaigns and marketing goals is not a bad gig.

After all, most businesses could use a worker whose main goal is building creative landing pages.

We would recommend using one of the three best landing page builder tools: Unbounce, Leadpages, or GetResponse, so that you don’t have to code each landing page from scratch.

Instead, you can use their drag-and-drop builder tools to create your pages while maintaining your brand’s identity and charisma.

41. Monetize a Webinar

Have you ever been on YouTube or Instagram and seen an ad where an entrepreneur is promoting a free web class or webinar?

Although these webinars are positioned to be free and inclusive, they can actually generate a lot of revenue.

How?

They use funneling strategies such as upselling and interest generation to gather leads during the webinar and convert them to customers at the end.

Webinar Funnel Diagram

You too can do the same thing. All you need is a small business idea that you can share with people and speak on for about 30 minutes to an hour.

Convincing a random person to participate in your webinar isn’t actually too hard. The difficulty comes from actually convincing them to purchase your upsold product.

Luckily, I have a great resource (training from the master himself, Russell Brunson) that can help you master this process with examples and templates.

42. Fix and Flip Houses

List of Business Ideas

Here is a unique business idea you’ve probably never considered before. These are the steps to get started:

How to Make Money by Flipping Broken Houses

  1. Hunt for broken-down properties on an app like LendingHome
  2. Check out the property, note any problems, and evaluate the surrounding neighborhood
  3. Get a loan to purchase the house short-term
  4. Either hire a contractor or fix up the house yourself
  5. Flip the cleaned-up property for a higher price

The key is to find a house that appears to be undervalued in comparison to the houses next to it. If the listing has a lot of fixable issues like leakage, chipping paint, and interior bumps, you could fix it up and sell it at a reasonable price.

You also want to make sure the house is listed in a nice area that people would actually want to live in.

This is a great way to turn $20,000 into $100,000 if you don’t mind doing handy work. It’s also a smart project you can do in the summer when a lot of people are looking to stay in vacation homes.

So if you like getting your hands dirty, you should absolutely add this to your list of small business ideas.

43. Be a Personal Trainer

Type of Startup Business

If you love working out and exercising, you probably wouldn’t mind teaching others how to train effectively.

In fact, this type of business could lead you to a very fulfilling life and career.

Although you could technically become an online personal trainer just by uploading YouTube videos and starting your own website, it will be much easier to earn clients if you get certified.

I would recommend going through the process of becoming a personal trainer with NASM.org.

They represent the National Association of Sports Medicine and they have helped educate over 1.3 million fitness professionals across the world.

46. Trade Websites

Website Trading Entrepreneur Idea

If you already own a profitable website with a diverse audience, you can actually make a ton of money from selling your website on a directory like Flippa

For example, a website called JobsForFelonsHub was recently sold for $500,000 on Flippa in 2021. The reason for this was because of its traffic sources.

Most of the site’s audience came from SEO and organic search. It also impacts a large niche audience–felons who need to find a new job online

If you want to make money from selling your website online, make sure you know all the details of your site before you post it. This includes the monthly revenue, traffic sources, diversity, and automation (mostly for eCommerce). These are all things that buyers will need to know before they make a purchasing decision.

On the other hand, if you have a lot of capital to spend right now, you can purchase a website that is already profitable. Purchasing a site can be a great investment, especially if you know how much it is worth.

47. Start an Agency

Agency

If you have had a lot of success as a freelancer, the next logical step is to start an agency business.

There is a huge demand for agencies in niches like digital marketing and advertising, and new businesses are popping up on a daily basis.

Make sure to target a niche market and have a solid value proposition before you start. Most agencies fail to get customers because they target a generalized market.

Do your market research and design a beautiful landing page to collect leads quickly.

The key is to target an ideal customer so that your agency can build credibility even without a lot of case studies.

For example, an advertising agency that only does Facebook ads for doctors (one niche and one service) will have a higher chance of converting leads.

Once you have that, choose a domain name and start building your website so that you can drive clients to your new business.

48. Do Affiliate Marketing

Tech Startup Idea: Affiliate Marketing

If you want money, you should be doing affiliate marketing.

Let me repeat that.

IF YOU WANT TO MAKE MONEY, do affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketing is one the easiest ways to monetize any type of traffic. Let me tell you why.

If you join a business’s affiliate marketing program, they will give you a customized link to their product page.

When people click on your customized link and make a purchase, you earn a commission.

All you need is a link and a person to click on it to turn a website into a small business. You don’t need a product, you don’t need a service, all you need is a link.

Chances are, the business you are linking to can already convert customers on their own. When you send them targeted leads, you are simply taking a portion of their revenue.

Here is a list of the best affiliate programs you can join today:

  1. Fiverr Affiliates
  2. ShareASale
  3. Impact
  4. FlexOffers

By the way, you will have to go to school to earn a certificate if you want to pursue this as an actual career.

That being said, you can still work your way up to becoming an investment advisor if you love the numbers game and you want to share your expertise with other people.

Who wouldn’t want that?
